Visiting a new church can seem intimidating, but there’s no reason to be nervous! Everyone is welcome at Pataskala UMC. If you’re considering joining us for worship, we’d love to have you. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions to guide you:
What time does worship begin?
Worship begins at 9:00 am and concludes between 10:00 and 10:15 am.
Where do I park?
We have parking all around our building and there is a gravel lot on the east side of the church at the corner of Benson and Jefferson Streets. There are handicapped-accessible ramps that lead into our sanctuary in our north lot (between the city building and our church), and at the southern corner of the front of the building.
What does a worship service look like?
Our worship is traditional in style with a piano, organ and hymns, choir and soloists. Children and adults are present in worship.
What do most people wear?
Attire is generally business casual. People wear dresses, shirts and ties, or jeans and shirts.
Will I be able to hear no matter where I sit?
There are hearing assistance devices available from the sound booth area at the back of the sanctuary.
Where are the restrooms located?
Men’s and Women’s restrooms can be found on all levels. The handicap-accessible restrooms are just outside of the sanctuary.
When do you serve Holy Communion?
Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month. The Communion table is open to all. We believe that Holy Communion is a “means of grace” or a way by which we may receive the grace of God. Children may take communion with the permission of their parents.
Are my children welcome in worship? Do you have childcare?
We welcome all children to be present and participating in worship with us. However, we recognize that not all parents or guardians are comfortable having their children in worship with them. Nursery care is available during worship for children preschool-aged and younger. If your child is more comfortable staying in worship with you, there are activity bags located in the back of the church marked for younger or older children. Please return the bag to a peg on the stand at the end of worship.
How can I grow in my faith?
Adults: There is an adult Sunday School class that begins directly after worship (10:15), located in Beeson Hall, on the north side of the building at street level. They are using Adult Bible Studies curriculum from Cokesbury.
Another class will begin on August 4 and will be in the upstairs adult education wing at the east end of the building.
Children (September-May): From the beginning of the school year through the end of the school year, there are three Children’s Sunday School classes in the lower level children’s education wing. Nursery to pre-school (west end), Kindergarten-grade 3 (middle room), Grades 4-6 (east end).
During the Week
Adults: Wednesday Morning Bible Study begins on July 31 from 10:00 am-11:00 am in Beeson Hall (north side of building, street level). We will be studying the texts that will be preached in the coming week in order to prepare our hearts for worship on Sunday and sustain us in our week. Bring your Bible or use a bible app on your phone!
Children (September-May): King’s Club is a Wednesday evening family dinner followed by a time of fun and learning Bible lessons with school-aged children. Dinner begins at 5:30 pm and the programming begins at 6:00 pm. Families may eat together in Beeson Hall (north side of building, street level) and then kids will head out for a fun evening with activities, crafts, music and bible lessons.
Online: If you are unable to join us in person, please join us online! Objects of Faith is a weekly blog that Pastor Nikki writes to inspire faith engagement through reflection on everyday objects. You can connect to Objects of Faith.
